Christopher Martin, SFGC Conducting Fellow

Christopher Martin is a conductor, singer, and composer originally from Berkeley, California. An SFGC alum, Chris returned to the organization as an Away Camp counselor for six years, and directed the Counselor Chorus for three summers. Since 2023, he has worked in various capacities with SFGC, and is excited to return for his second season as Conducting Fellow. In addition to SFGC, Chris teaches in the Vocal Department at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts and sings in a variety of choral ensembles throughout the Bay Area. He can be heard in the schola cantorum of the Cathedral of Christ the Light (Oakland) and in Volti. Chris is also a founding member of Nebula Consort, a newly-formed professional chamber choir. He is a Vocal Mentor with the National Children's Chorus San Francisco Chapter, and works as a freelance music theory tutor and vocal coach. As a composer, Chris has had recent commissions from Sing Me a Story and Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. He is currently working on a piece for Vallejo Choral Society to be premiered in May 2026. Outside of music, he is proud to volunteer with the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, in support of youth in the foster care system. Chris holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and in Choral Church Music from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN).
