The Kanbar Performing Arts Center
Home of the San Francisco Girls Chorus
The Kanbar Performing Arts Center opened in 2005 at 44 Page Street in San Francisco’s Civic Center performing arts district, just steps from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, SFJAZZ Center, War Memorial Opera House, and Davies Symphony Hall.
The building itself has a remarkable history. Originally opened in 1912 as the New Druid Temple, this Renaissance Revival structure with Second Empire influence once served as the ceremonial seat of California’s “Supreme Grove.” Its three grand floors of high-ceilinged ceremonial and loft spaces, combined with three floors of office suites added in 1984, total more than 40,000 square feet.
Today, the entire six-floor building has been transformed into rehearsal, classroom, and administrative offices for the San Francisco Girls Chorus, along with rehearsal and office spaces available for other organizations.
A Hub for the Arts and Community
Each year, more than two dozen arts, cultural, educational, and community organizations benefit from the Kanbar Center, making it a vital shared resource in San Francisco’s creative ecosystem. By offering space for both SFGC’s programs and for partner organizations, the building fosters collaboration and artistic exchange across the Bay Area.
