SFGC’s impact on our daughter, after only one year, has been tremendous. Beyond the strong musical education, SFGC has brought her a sense of empowerment, self confidence, commitment, rigor, and most importantly, a sense of joy that spreads well beyond chorus into her daily social, emotional and academic life. We are so happy she found SFGC and this community!

Auditions for the San Francisco Girls Chorus School are held each Spring in late May/early June. Dates for our next auditions will be announced in early 2020.

If you are interested in having your daughter audition for the Chorus School next Spring, please contact Johann Joson, Chorus School Coordinator, at jjoson@sfgirlschorus.org, and you will be among the first to receive the 2020 Audition Information Form when it becomes available.

The Chorus School offers programs in San Francisco and in the East Bay, in Emeryville. The ideal candidate for participation in SFGC’s Chorus School is an energetic child possessing the musical attributes that are generally considered requisite for the highest standards of performance in choral music: the aptitude to listen and hear differences in pitch, the ability to match tones with the voice, the capability to imitate rhythms correctly, and an instinct for singing. Choristers must cooperate well with others, possess basic reading skills, be able to take verbal and written instruction for improvement, and have the capacity to focus and concentrate.

Please note, SFGC offers partial and full need-based scholarships for all of our Chorus School programs.

Upon gaining acceptance into the Chorus School, young singers have the unique opportunity to:

  • Become members of an organization dedicated to the empowerment and advancement of girls and young women through excellence in music education and performance;

  • Enjoy the company of more than 350 choristers in weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals, depending on level;

  • Perform classical music, contemporary music, world music, and some musical theater under the guidance of a faculty of elite performers/educators;

  • Study vocal technique and learn sight singing, study skills, and music theory;

  • Attend a week-long summer music camp and train with our expert faculty of professional musicians;

  • Learn to perform with poise and confidence for Bay Area audiences!
