With Carla Kihlstedt, violinist/composer

As our choristers embark to other parts of the world, they are ambassadors of everything that America and SF represent to the global community. In this send-off concert just before SFGC departs for several Nordic countries, we celebrate the innovators who give freshness and adventure to the American sound. The program includes Bay Area giants John Adams and Lou Harrison; American icons John Cage, William Schuman and Meredith Monk; a special appearance by young American violinist-vocalist-composer Carla Kihlstedt, who continues this tradition of innovation in new work created expressly for our choristers; and a tip of the hat to the young women who served as ambassadors of American music around the world almost a century ago, the Andrews Sisters and their various Sisters Trio predecessors.
