2012-2013: 34th Season 

For more than thirty years, the thrilling sounds of the extraordinarily gifted young women of the San Francisco Girls Chorus have captured the attention and fired the imaginations of audiences worldwide. Following a phenomenal 30th anniversary season that included featured performances at the Inauguration of President Barack Obama, a New York debut at Lincoln Center and unprecedented ticket sales the San Francisco Girls Chorus has furthered its status as an internationally celebrated professional choral ensemble.

Opening Night Concert
Friday, November 2, 2012 at 8 p.m.

Herbst Theatre, San Francisco

Jeffrey Thomas and American Bach soloists will partner with SFGC for a concert of music from Vivaldi’s Venice, including music he wrote for young women and girls he trained as accomplished musicians in the Venitian ospedale.

New holiday music will be added to the repertoire with the premiere of Gordon Getty’s Hodie and music by the winners of a young composers’ competition overseen by SFGC Composer-in-Residence Gabriela Frank.

34th Season Gala
Friday, March 22, 2013, 6 p.m.

The City Club, San Francisco

Legendary Bay Area jazz artists the Marcus Shelby Trio will be guest artists for the annual gala, performing with SFGC. The evening also honors 30th anniversary of Elizabeth Avakian as Chorus School Director.

Santos World Premiere
Friday, May 3, 2013, 8 p.m. 

Mission Dolores, San Francisco

SFGC presents the premiere of Santos, a newly-commissioned oratorio by composer Gabriela Lena Frank and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and playwright Nilo Cruz, featuring members of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Joana Carneiro, and soprano Jessica Rivera. The prelude to Santos will have received its premiere with the Berkeley Symphony in April 2012 in advance of the full premiere in May, 2013. The evening will begin with pre-concert talk with  Gabriela Lena Frank and Nilo Cruz.
