The Sweet Sound of Success
We held a party for the release of our magnificent new double CD set, Heaven and Earth
On the Road Again
It is our mission to give concerts around the world, including places like Latvia, Nebraska, or even the other end of our own state
On Sunday the girls sang at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in Southern California. As expected, they gave a beautiful performance, and a wonderful review of this concert was published yesterday here. The Cerritos Center is a big performing arts center in SoCal. The auditorium seats about 1500, and I think Susan would agree, it’s an acoustically challenging space to perform in! But, as always, the girls excelled.
The Show Must Go On
Being consummate professional quality artists, the girls will hit the road next weekend for another performance
We’ve just finished a full weekend of concerts opening our 2009-2010 season. They were beautiful, challenging (in a good way) and well attended. Check out the review on SFCV here
The Silken Tent
We hear again and again about lifelong friendships and instant connections former choristers make with each other as grown women, because of their shared experiences with the Girls Chorus...
International Affairs
our concerts later this month are living examples of cultural exchange through the ages, and especially along the Silk Road
Living History
This Wednesday, members of the San Francisco Girls Chorus will perform at the opening ceremonies of the President’s Cup golf tournament. President Bush, Sr., and President Clinton are expected to attend, and everyone hopes that President Obama will also be able to join them...
The Everyday Work of Art
In watching the new Ken Burns series on PBS about the National Parks the other night, I was struck by a quote from John Muir, who said we “need beauty as much as we need bread.”
Back to School!
The Chorus School and rehearsals have started up again for the 2009-2010 season. This week we will have successive “Back to Chorus” nights for all our families on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Summer Magic
Summer has always been a magical season for me. As a child it meant a long break from school, and was usually kicked off by a pre-dawn car load-out for family road trips. I’d fall asleep stretched out in the backseat (before legal car-seat and seat belt days, for sure!) and wake up, as if by magic, in brilliant sunshine somewhere new.
