On Tuesday, March 2, 2010 members of the Alumnae Association and SFGC parents attended a discussion and reception featuring Lisa Bielawa ’84. There was also a special open rehearsal access for Chorissima and the Alumnae Chorus. The event took place at the Kanbar Performing Arts Center, 44 Page Street, San Francisco, CA. 

Lisa is a 1984 laureate, Yale graduate, member of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and a successful musician based on the East Coast. She is also a 2009 Rome Prize winner in Musical Composition, currently in residence at the American Academy in Rome from September 2009 to August 2010. Past winners of the Rome Prize include Aaron Copland and John Adams. Lisa also co-founded Music At The Anthology or MATA, an organization dedicated to young composers and the commissioning and premiering of their works, where she served as Artistic Director for ten years and is now the Artistic Director Emeritus.

As a composer-vocalist Lisa takes inspiration for her work from literary sources and close artistic collaborations. The New York Times describes her music as, "ruminative, pointillistic and harmonically slightly tart," and Time Out New York praised her "prodigious gift for mingling persuasive melodicism with organic experimentation." She is a 2009 Rome Prize winner in Musical Composition and is spending September 2009 through August 2010 composing at the American Academy in Rome.
